Dr. Englesbe is the Cyrenus G. Darling Sr., MD and Cyrenus G. Darling Jr., MD Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan in the Section of Transplantation Surgery. He practices liver transplantation in children and adults. He is the director of the BCBSM-supported Michigan Surgical Quality Collaborative (MSQC) and co-directs the Michigan Opioid Prescribing Engagement Network (Michigan OPEN). His research is concerned with the relationship between the costs and quality of surgical care, and also specifically focuses on patient frailty, surgical outcomes and post-operative opioid utilization, and morphomics (the analysis of human body factors derived from medical imaging to understand how variations impact and predict patient risk and outcomes).
