Executive Director, Michigan High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA)
Mr. Summers was appointed Executive Director of the Michigan HIDTA on January 1, 2018 after serving as Deputy Director since June 2009. HIDTA is a Federal grant program administered by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The goal of the program is to bring federal, state and local law enforcement together to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking and money laundering organizations. He began his law enforcement career with the Farmington Hills Police Department in January 1982. He served the City of Farmington Hills as a patrol officer, field training officer, detective, undercover officer with the Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), Team leader with NET, patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant.
He was promoted to Commander in charge of the Patrol Division in January 2001 and served as a member of the Chief’s Executive Staff until he retired in July 2009. He was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2004 and served as the Assistant Chief of both the Administrative Bureau and the Investigative Bureau. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University and a Master’s of Science Degree in Administration from Central Michigan University. Mr. Summers is a graduate of the 213th Session of the F.B.I. National Academy and the 132nd Session of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
